GRIMUS - Debut UK Single STARTED - Out on Eden Music 9th August 2010
Hailing from Cluj-Napoca, Transylvanian 6-piece Grimus formed in 2006 where they met at the City University. They are named after the 1975 Salman Rushdie novel Grimus. He's a fan, and they appeared with him on his book tour. 2009 was the year that their homeland started to take them seriously. Their debut album Panikon, was hailed as the Romanian rock album of the year and they were Number 1 several times on numerous Romanian National radio stations.
'This six piece sound like Muse giving The Killers a kicking in the car park'
Eden producer Adam Whittaker first heard Grimus on Myspace in early '09. They impressed him and he wanted to make a record but with Adam based in Reading UK and Grimus in Transylvania it seemed kind of crazy to get in touch.. It didn't stop him, and just weeks later Adam's mix of the track In a Glimpse became a #1 radio hit.
A trip to Transylvania to see the band play also showed how music is sold in Romania.. and it isn't... There's no iTunes, scant indie music in the shops and there's more active piracy than off the coast of Somalia.
There's some hugely talented bands and kids that want to buy their music and they can't. There's no guarantee that this single will be available in Romania yet but Eden and their distribution company Believe Digital are on it, trying to find a way to take the music back to people that really want to hear it... Watch this space...
Eden moved from PR/Production company into a full on record label so they could bring out the first UK Grimus release. Single Started was recorded in Romania, in the UK and mastered in the US.
The Romanian Cultural Institute in London got on board and with their support, the band will be flying in on the 7th August to play as part of the Outside Inside Festival. The boys will be launching their debut single on 8th August at the Eden Music launch party, then play an exclusive acoustic show on 9th August at the Romanian Embassy before finishing off with a support slot with the mighty Does it Offend You, Yeah? on 10th August.
